President’s Message, Paulette
Equality is a big issue with many of us AAUW women. We have all joined this organizations for different reasons. Working towards equality is one of them. Equality is an issue in many areas, but it seems like equal pay for equal work is what really gets some of us ready to “roll up our sleeves” and get serious about the issue. Some of us are ready and willing and able to spend time and energy on that issue or another one that is important to us. Some of us are more concerned about other “life concerns”.
My message today is that you have chosen to work with AAUW, even if your time and money and energy do not seem to be what you would like to have. Just remember that your membership in this organization means that, as our AAUW-CA president, Kathleen Doty says, “you are active in a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women and girls have a fair chance.”
Thursday June 2, 5:30 – New Officer Installation, at Peking Wok, $20/person. Please RSVP to Harriet Moses or Gail Wendland.

The Ice Cream Social on April 19th was a huge success. Approximately 17 women attended; Everyone had a great time socializing and having ice cream….. $316.80 was made from the Tupperware sales and $45.00 was donated to Funds. Barbara Dunstan and Gail Wendland thank everyone who made this a success. That was the last fund raiser event for the year. They will be once again co chairing Funds.
We thank all the members who supported our events for the year for this very important area of AAUW.
Our May Breakfast club will be on the fourth Thursday,May 26th, 9:00 AM at:
Coco’s, on South St. across from Target
In order to have a more accurate count for setting up chairs please try to RSVP as much as possible. A day or two ahead is fine. Please bring cash as we might not be able to have separate checks. It will depend on how busy they are.
Please remember to say hello to any new member or someone that you don’t always speak to at our meetings. We all like to be recognized and to feel welcome.

Thank you all very much for your generous contributions to Micah’s Way! They are in the process of moving their office to downtown Santa Ana. Our items will definitely help them stock up their new shelves! Those of you who requested a receipt will receive them shortly.
Thank you again for your great support!
Our program this past week with Assemblywomen Cristina Garcia and Young Kim was very interesting and informative. Both women are very delightful, and seem to well represent the residents of their districts!
Thanks to Jackie, our May meeting will be held at the University of Phoenix, 6 Center Pointe Drive, Room 225, La Palma.
For this general meeting, we will have the privilege of hearing Bob Aronson and Carol Apt give us interesting ideas to help us with our future travel plans.
There will be time for questions at the end of their presentation.
We hope to see you at the meeting.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL DUES
Our AAUW year ends on June 30 and YOUR dues for next year need to be paid and forwarded by us to our National Association and California State before then. Later payments cause a lot of hassle, extra paperwork and processing delays, so please try to pay by the end of MAY. Remember that $46 of that amount is now a tax deduction, as a contribution to AAUW National Association as a reorganized 501(c)3 tax exempt group. Dues amount has changed for 2015-16, according to voted approval at AAUW-CA convention in April 2014. Dues this year are $90 or $41 for Life Members. Bring a check the meeting or send it to Marilyn, written out to La Palma Cerritos AAUW.
NOTE: Payment for dues and Installation dinner can be on one check.
