LA PALMA-CERRITOS AAUW POLICY GUIDELINES

A copy of the following policy guidelines of the La Palma-Cerritos Branch of the American Association of University Women will be kept by the branch secretary.  As the interests and needs of the branch membership change, additions to and deletions from this policy will be proposed by an appointed policy committee and adopted by the Board of Directors.

MEMBERSHIP

Potential members may attend no more than three (3) branch meetings and activities before having to pay dues and becoming a member in order to continue attending.  Attendance at fundraising events and other branch events open to the public is not limited. Information about AAUW and membership will be provided to guests.  AAUW Interest Groups may be formed at any time for the benefit of branch members.  If an interest group expands to include non-members, it will not be considered a branch Interest Group.  This policy does not apply to the partners of members participating in groups that are organized for couples. Any person who is necessary for a member’s participation is exempt from membership requirements.

BUDGET

The president, treasurer, and other branch members will prepare the proposed budget for the next fiscal year and present it to the Board of Directors by the September Board Meeting for adoption.  The proposed budget will be presented to the general membership at the September General meeting.  Financial decisions that need to be made before that time may be approved by a majority of the Executive Committee.

STATE CONVENTION

The branch will pay the registration for the president and president-elect whenever financially possible.  In addition, the cost of the hotel room, one banquet meal and transportation will be paid by the branch for the president or substitute delegation leader whenever financially possible.  Other members may be supported when financially possible.

AAUW FUND NAMED GRANTEES

Whenever money is available, one or more grantee(s) will be named.  Named grantee recipient(s) should support the goals of AAUW and the AAUW Fund.

The Board shall recommend the amount of money to be donated each year.  A committee of at least three active, past recipients, appointed by the branch president, will choose the named grantee recipient(s) by the designated date.

The name(s) of the recipient(s) should be kept secret and announced at the discretion of the AAUW Fund vice president and the president.  An AAUW Fund Named Gift Honoree Certificate and a Named Gift Recipient Pin will be presented to each recipient and be provided for in the General Budget.

INSTALLATION COMMITTEE

The Installation committee will include the program vice president, the hospitality chair and a past president or their designees.  The committee will be responsible for choosing the time, place, date, program, and theme of the installation.  The outgoing president and the president-elect will be consulted as needed, and the AAUW Fund vice president will advise the committee as to time needed for presentations in the program.

EX-ITS

The “Ex-its” is an advisory group comprised of the past presidents of our branch who are current branch members.

DIRECTORY USAGE

The branch directory or any part must not be given to or copied for any outside use or organization without the written permission of the La Palma-Cerritos branch.  E-mail list is for AAUW branch business only.  To use the information in the directory for any purpose that conflicts with adopted AAUW, AAUW-CA or branch positions shall be considered “Misuse of Name”, subject to the AAUW bylaws.  Individual members may contact each other for personal reasons by mutual consent.
