Your voice is your vote. Be heard! #ItsMyVote

NOVEMBER, 2016

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Joyce

Fall has arrived with shorter days and many activities for our branch planned. I wish to thank everyone that pulled together to make our October meeting a success. Right now our President Paulette Smith is occupied with her husband’s medical crisis. As President Elect I will assume the job of President Pro Tem until our President’s crisis passes. Here are some of our November activities and events. November 8 we have the national and state election. The “Get Out The Vote” campaign has been an important focus of AAUW for many years. Please encourage everyone to vote. Remember your vote is your voice so let your voice and choice be heard.

November 13 will be the LACIC meeting at Presbyterian Inter-community Hospital at 12401 Washington Blvd. Whittier. It will from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. This is a great way to network with other local AAUW women and find out the latest news on local and state levels. November 17 General Meeting we will have Norma Rodriguez as our liaison and speaker from Cerritos College. As our C/U partnership she will bring new information. A meeting not to miss! On November 30 we have our Membership Breakfast Club at 9:00 A.M. at CoCo’s restaurant in Cerritos. Contact Membership Chairs Sue Solomon or Barbara Sparks for reservations and information.

At the end of the month our nation will be celebrating the holiday of Thanksgiving, a great time to spend relaxing with friends and family and give thanks to our nation’s history. I wish a “Happy Thanksgiving” to all of you and your families.

Susan and Frankie from the League of Women Voters provided information that assisted many of us in deciding which way to vote on the measures.  It was an interesting evening and nice to see several guests among our membership.  Thank you to Edna for her publicity about this presentation in the local newspapers, and also to those who invited friends and neighbors!

Appreciation is also extended to Harriet and Sondra for coordinating this program.  The refreshments were yummy…thank you to members who brought a “goodie” or two or three!

The November meeting will introduce Norma Rodgriguez, one of our two liaisons from Cerritos College.  She will share her expectations in this role and also explain her job at the college.

Welcome, Norma!

We will continue to collect toiletries for Union Rescue Mission.  Please bring them to the meeting.  We will also be collecting holiday gifts for Su Casa, and will announce when and where you may bring them.

Thank you very much for your continual support!

December preview

The AAUW Holiday Party will be on Saturday, Dec. 10th  at 7:00 p.m.  It will be at Carol”s house.  Car pool if you can as parking isn’t wonderful.

Bring a holiday snack or sweet to share.  It is a BYOB party.  Hot spiced cider and coffee will be provided.  There will be a sign up sheet at the November meeting.  Please let Carol know if you will be coming and what food item you will be bringing.  This is necessary so she will know what holiday paper goods she will have to get.  The last time it was there 32 signed up and 45 showed up.  Please don’t let that happen this time.  Looking forward to a wonderful evening.

AAUW FUND  Barbara D and Gail W

Barbara D. and  Gail W. thank all the members and guests who supported our fiesta fund raiser at Don Jose’s on Oct. 25th.  We counted 35 participants during the hours of 3-8 pm.  We  were thrilled with the number of people who attended.

We received a check from Don Jose Restaurant for $127.81, so we wanted to once again thank all of our members that participated.

Also check out our LAF page for new update.
