President’s Message

I hope everyone had as nice a Thanksgiving as we did, as we welcome our granddaughter Eve. We have a lot to be thankful for in this time

As we read or hear in the news, AAUW is needed as much now, if not more, to help women’s rights. I worked with a group of 9th grade students and they wanted to know if it is really true that women make less than men at many jobs. We still need to educate. Also, in this time of sexual harassment, we have to teach the young that any form of sex discrimination violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. “Sexual harassment” is described as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Title VII is a federal law that prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, and religion, and it applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including federal, state, and local governments.

Even with Title VII’s protections, many people across the country still face sexual harassment in their workplaces. It is our job to help the youth and even adults know that sexual harassment in any form is wrong.

Look for upcoming information for our AAUW Fund luncheon on February 10th at Carol’s, also.

Have a Happy Holiday,

No Meeting in December
Join together at our Holiday Party instead

Carol’s house, 7 PM
Saturday, December 9th

It is holiday time and our holiday party will be on December 9th at Carol’s home. Remember you are to bring a favorite dish to share and your own alcoholic beverage. Hot cider and coffee will be provided.

Reminder to bring any little hotel toiletries that you brought home from your travels.  These will be collected by Diane Hutson for donation to the Union Rescue Mission.

Also, if you wish to contribute, gifts for the residents at Su Casa will be collected. See next page.

The following is information from Su Casa from their Holiday Wish Lists. Gifts will be collected at our Holiday Party December 9th.

Most of our adult clients that come to our agency think only of their children when it comes to gifts and luxuries. Rarely will they ask for anything for themselves. That is the reason why at Su Casa, we try to pamper them and allow them time to relax and enjoy a few treats. Thank you for thinking of our clients.

The most requested treats are: Socks Pajamas Perfume or body sprays Lotions Slippers (all sizes) Hair products (hair spray, moose) Bras any size Nail polish, nail polish remover Cologne for men After shave cologne Polo Shirts Umbrellas Sweatshirts (any size) Deodorant Beanies Gift cards for a movie treat or shopping trip.

Most of the children that come to our shelters had to leave behind their treasured toys. To ease the transition into their new home, we give each child two new toys. We celebrate the holidays and we take special care to make these happy times. Below are the types of toys the children would like to receive. All donations of new toys are greatly appreciated.

Toddler Toys – Mega Blocks, Playskool, Leap Frog, VTec, Disney; Sports Equipment – Soccer balls, Basketballs, Baseball bats and mitts.
