OCTOBER, 2016

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Paulette

Jackie made such a wonderful announcement at the September General Meeting.  I am using my “bully pulpit” to make sure everybody knows about it.

The University of Phoenix is offering 15 full-paid scholarships for a Master’s in education for qualified applicants from certain school districts.  Current staff and teachers in ABC and Cypress school districts are eligible. Deadline for application is October 11 and classes begin in February in La Palma.  Contact Jackie for further info.

Meeting/Program, Mary Ann & Nancy

Meeting/Program
Thursday, October 20
Skyline Room, Cerritos Public Library
6:30 PM Social
7:00 Program, Meeting to follow

The program focusing on Tech Trek was very well presented!  A special thank you to Tobi and Natalia for an interesting and informative evening.  It was a pleasure to meet such a promising young lady, and we all wish her continued success in her endeavors!

Our program for October will include Sue Guilford, president of Central Orange County League of Women, and Frankie Brady, Secretary.  They will present the pros and cons for 17 propositions on the Nov. 8 statewide ballot dealing with the death penalty, gun control, plastic bags, healthcare, and other issues.  The program will be presented in a balanced, nonpartisan manner. Please feel free to invite a guest to our meeting!

We are collecting toiletries for Union Mission at our October and November meetings. Any contribution will be appreciated including hotel toiletries, toothpaste/toothbrushes, hand sanitizers, etc. The collection will be delivered without having to individually gift bag them; leaving them loose allows the receivers to simply select what they want and can use.  Diane Hutson has graciously agreed to make the delivery to the Union Mission for us.

Gifts for Su Casa children and mothers will be collected at our Holiday Party on December 10.  Below are links to their “Wish Lists” if you want to contribute.

AAUW FUND  Barbara D and Gail W

We are having our first restaurant fundraiser on October, the 25th, at Don Jose’s Mexican Restaurant in Artesia (Artesia and Pioneer,) so please put this date on your calendar as it is a night you do NOT need to cook!  Our branch will receive 20% of the receipts that our members spend that evening.  I have already sent out the flyer, but will send out the flyers again a little closer to the event and will bring some to the October monthly meeting.  Also here is a link to the flyer.  DonJose-Fundraiser

We hope you will support Funds by participating if you can.  Thanks!

Also check out our LAF page for new update.
