President’s Message, Paulette
It’s February already? Valentines come to my mind! As I thought about my February AAUW message and Valentines it occurred to me that a perfect Valentine to our daughters and grand-daughters would be the assurance that they could look forward to equal pay for equal work. They could look forward to equality in the work place and in the educational world.
The AAUW Value Promise is “By Joining AAUW you belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women and girls have a fair chance.” What a gift that would be. and our AAUW is and has been working toward that goal for many, many years. Each year we get closer to that goal. We have “people” working for us in Washington DC. Our Legal Advocacy Fund helps to pay for that work. Our Legal Advocacy Fund chair, Tobi Balma is in close touch and working with state and national representatives who spend hours each week working towards fulfilling that promise. The funds that we collect each year to support legal advocacy is well spent and some day there will be equality in the educational and economic worlds and we at the La Palma-Cerritos Branch of AAUW will have helped that to happen.
No general meeting in February!! Attend the AAUW Funds Brunch!
It was great to see the wonderful attendance at our January general meeting! The program was both very educational and informative, and we hope that you are now ready to roll up your sleeves and pitch in and help. There are so many needs! Just call the organization of your choice and express your willingness to serve. They are very appreciative!

AAUW Funds, Barbara D Gail W
Gail, Barb D and Tobi are busy planning for the Funds luncheon on Feb 20th at the Tanglewood Clubhouse where Flo lives….the address is 4247 Via Largo in Cypress……just North of Ball Rd and East of Bloomfield. Via Largo is the street that sides the Nature Center. We are planning a Fiesta Theme and we hope all members come that day. The event starts at 11:00 AM and the cost is $30.00. Checks may be sent to Marilyn and please make sure you add your name on the Evite that will be out soon. We would like to know you are coming by the 15th of February to arrange for the food.
Our speaker is Shannon Cholakian who goes to CSULB. Shannon went to NCCWSL in 2014. She was also the guest “speaker” for a CA Online Program. I got a real feel for NCCWSL and a tremendous amount of excitement and respect for Shannon. Come and hear this dynamic young woman speak. You will learn about another facet of AAUW Funds.
