PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Joyce
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through our fiscal year. Our beloved President Paulette Smith had to make a difficult choice to resign. We miss her very much and as President Elect I have been able to fill the position. The Nomination Committee has been busy seeking elected officers for next year. If you are approached by the Nomination Committee, please consider volunteering to keep the ball rolling with very successful programs started by very active and creative officers.
During the month of February Barbara D and Gail W, our Funds Vice Presidents, are busy preparing for our annual Funds Luncheon at Carol’s home. We will all pull together and help Barbara and Gail to make this a great success. The Luncheon is scheduled for February 18th at 11:00A.M.
At the present time our annual Retreat Committee has sent out a survey to all members to help organize our end of year event. Please send back the completed survey to Joyce Grohmann, if you haven’t already done that. Our Retreat is a great way to give everyone a voice in planning our next year.
This year’s National AAUW Convention is in Washington D.C. June 14 – 17. It is held in Washington D.C. every two years. March 31st is the deadline for early registration for best rates. The AAUW convention is a great way to network with members across the nation, attend informative workshops, and visit the Capital and Capital Mall. Be sure to register now!
Looking forward to seeing all of you at the February 18th Funds Luncheon, and at the many interest groups and committee meetings.

Jill Swaim presented a very interesting, informative program explaining what Road Scholar travel offers. We appreciated her driving the long distance from Carlsbad to be with us.
Our program for March will offer exercises for strength training and better balance. Please remember to dress comfortably and wear appropriate shoes. It will be very enjoyable!
Thank you very much for all the toiletries for Micah’s Way! We will collect once more at our general meeting in March at Cerritos Library, Skyline Room. You are truly touching the lives of many men and women who appreciate your kindness!

The Fund Luncheon is coming up on Feb 18th at Carol’s house, and the Evite has been e-mailed, so please reply if you are coming. We would like some firm numbers by February 14th so please RSVP by then. Our theme is “International Delight” and will feature an array of delightful foods from around the world. We want to thank all of our members who have volunteered to make the dishes. We begin the day at 11:00 with a suggested donation of $25.00. A check may be sent to Marilyn or paid the day of the luncheon.
Our speaker is Andrea Milne, an AAUW American Fellowship recipient, who is working on her PhD in History at UC Irvine. She will be discussing her dissertation, which examines the advocacy work performed by nurses who founded the first U.S. Aids ward. We look forward to seeing as many of our members as possible. Please see Carol’s address in the directory or call Gail or Barb. Thank you.
